ESAB Ruffian EMP 270G Gas Welder Generator, 270A Multiprocess, 11 kW Peak

The ESAB Ruffian EMP 270G is a gas engine-driven welder and 11,000 W peak AC generator in one portable unit. Its inverter delivers 270 A at 100% duty cycle for stick, MIG, flux-cored and DC TIG welding, and a 23.5 HP Kohler CH730 engine supplies welding and auxiliary power at the same time.

Generator output is 11,000 W peak and 10,500 W continuous, independent of the weld current, so tools, lights and even other welders or plasma cutters can run while welding. Receptacles are four 120 VAC 20 A GFCI duplex outlets, one 240 VAC 50 A (6-50R) and one 120/240 V 50 A hybrid, each guarded by a circuit breaker and a rubber cover. The two-cylinder, air-cooled Kohler engine draws from an 11-gallon fuel tank.

Setup runs through a 7 in. color TFT display that shows process, output, material thickness and electrode type in high-contrast graphics, plus a maintenance screen that tracks engine oil, spark plugs and the air, fuel and oil filters. Arc Force Control helps E6010 and E7018 electrodes start reliably, carbon arc gouging (CAC) works with 3/16 in. carbons, and a direct connection accepts the Tweco Spool Gun 250. The compact footprint suits service-truck mounting for pipeline, civil construction and repair work.
