The Generac Next Gen 28kW is an air-cooled home standby generator rated 28kW on LP and 25kW on natural gas, driven by a 997cc engine with electronic fuel and ignition control. Its radio covers cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, the Power Zone 200 controller and sensors give four times the diagnostics capability, and the maintenance interval is 200 hours.

The 997cc engine has a new head design, hydraulic lifters that need no adjustment, an oil level sensor and a fuel pressure sensor, and its 200-hour maintenance interval compares with a 100-hour industry standard. TruePower Electrical Technology keeps total harmonic distortion under 5%, and Smart Exercise skips a planned exercise when the unit has already run over five minutes straight within the last 72 hours.

The sound-attenuated enclosure holds noise to 67 dBA or less and is rated for hurricane-force winds of up to 150 MPH, with a sloped roof against water, ice and snow buildup, a rear air intake, easy-to-remove panels and a lift-out front for routine maintenance. Its footprint matches the other Next Gen models, and the unit is certified for installation 18 inches from a home, meets the 2017 NEC shutdown switch requirement and needs a 12-volt AGM Group BTX20L battery with at least 310 cold cranking amps.
