The Hobart AirForce 40i plasma cutter is a 21 lb dual-voltage air plasma cutter that runs on 120 V or 240 V input through multi-voltage plug (MVP) adapters and makes clean cuts in 5/8 in. steel, with a 7/8 in. maximum cut. The package includes an XT40R torch on a 12 ft lead with consumables, a 12 ft heavy-duty work clamp and a 12 ft power cord.

Each MVP adapter cord carries the plug for one receptacle type and joins the power cord at an L6-30R twist lock, so switching between 120 V and 240 V outlets needs no tools. The pilot arc controller cuts expanded or perforated metal and painted or coated surfaces with no need to retrigger the torch, and automatic gouging consumable detection sets the gas pressure, removing the need for a manual regulator. The unit also runs from an engine-driven welder with a 240 V receptacle of 8 kW or more.

The XT40R torch adds comfort with an ergonomic safety trigger, better cooling and economical replacement tips, and a postflow cooling circuit extends consumable and torch life. Power factor correction supports extension-cord use and limits nuisance breaker trips, and line voltage compensation steadies output through +/- 15% input swings. Wind Tunnel Technology shields internal components from abrasive dust, and Fan-On-Demand cooling runs only when needed, drawing in fewer contaminants. Starts need no high frequency, LED diagnostic lights cover pressure, power and cup, a gas/air filter and regulator are built in, and the 21 lb unit measures 9 x 5.5 x 13.25 in. (H x W x L).
