The Hypertherm Powermax65 SYNC plasma cutter with a 50 ft hand torch is a 20-65 A air plasma system for handheld cutting and gouging, rated for a recommended cut of 3/4 in. (20 mm) at 20 ipm. It runs on 200-480 V single-phase or 200-600 V three-phase power (CSA), and its SmartSYNC torch reads each single-piece cartridge by RFID to set the amperage and operating mode.

Past the recommended rating it cuts 1 in. (25 mm) at 10 ipm, and a hand-cutting severance cut reaches 1-1/4 in. (32 mm) at 5 ipm. Pierce capacity is 5/8 in. (16 mm) when cutting by hand or with a mechanized torch under programmable height control. For maximum-removal gouging, the typical metal removal rate is 8.8 lbs per hour, with a groove about 0.11 in. deep and 0.25 in. wide. Laser-marked, color-coded cartridges are easy to tell apart by process, and end-of-life detection shows when one needs replacing.

The IGBT inverter power supply is rated 9 kW at 139 VDC, and an engine-driven generator needs 15 kW to deliver the full 65 A. Gas can be clean, dry, oil-free air or nitrogen, ideally at 110-120 psi and never below 75 psi. With handles the unit measures 19 x 9.2 x 17 in. (D x W x H), it weighs 61 lbs with a 25 ft torch fitted, and the input power cable is 10 ft long. Electrical efficiency is 91.2%.
