The Miller Maxstar 161 S with X-Case is a compact 13 lb (5.9 kg) DC stick welder for maintenance, field repair and light fabrication, supplied with a protective X-Case carrying case. It runs on 120 V (20 A) or 240 V input, delivers 20-90 A on 120 V and 20-160 A on 240 V, and includes electrode holder and work clamp leads.

Duty cycle is 30% at 90 A on 120 V and 20% at 160 A on 240 V. Open-circuit voltage is 48 V DC and drops to 12-16 V DC with VRD switched on. The machine accepts electrodes up to 5/32 in., welds steel from .020 to 3/16 in. and measures 10.3 x 5.6 x 13.5 in. (262 x 142 x 343 mm), with an upgraded shoulder strap and handle for carrying.

The package includes the power source, the X-Case, a 6.5 ft power cord with 120 V and 240 V power adapters, a 13 ft electrode holder and a 10 ft work clamp, both with cable and Dinse connector, plus the shoulder strap and handle. Settings are made on a digital meter interface. This 161 S is a stick-only (SMAW) welder, not TIG capable, and it carries CSA certification for both U.S. and Canadian standards.
