Miller Maxstar 280 DC TIG/Stick Welder, 208-575V, 1/3-Phase, 1-280A, 907552

The Miller Maxstar 280 is a 47 lb DC TIG/stick inverter welder that delivers 1-280 A and welds steel up to 3/8 in. thick. Auto-Line input connects to single- or three-phase power from 208 to 575 V without relinking, and as the standard model it covers the essential TIG and stick functions through menu-driven controls.

This standard 280 is DC TIG (GTAW) only and will not TIG weld aluminum; the DX version (907553) adds pulser functions, preflow, full trigger options and extended sequencer ranges. Quiet Pulse reduces audible noise, meter calibration lets the digital meters be calibrated for certification, a sleep timer powers the machine down when idle, and Auto-Postflow is built in. Steel from 0.004 in. (0.1 mm) to 3/8 in. (9.5 mm), stainless and specialty metals are within reach, and air carbon arc (CAC-A) cutting and gouging is supported.

For stick (SMAW), dual schedules, DIG arc control (smooth for 7018, stiffer for 6010) and adaptive Hot Start are standard, Stick-Stuck shuts down output when an electrode sticks so it can be removed safely, and Low OCV Stick limits idle open-circuit voltage to 9-14 VDC. The package includes the power source, an 8 ft (2.4 m) primary cord, an adjustable shoulder strap and two 50 mm Dinse-style connectors, and dual carry handles make the machine easy to move.
