Miller Maxstar 280 DX Pulsed DC TIG/Stick Welder, 208-575V, 1/3-Phase, 907553

The Miller Maxstar 280 DX is a 47 lb pulsed DC TIG/stick inverter welder that adds pulser functions, preflow, full trigger options and extended sequencer ranges to the essential TIG and stick controls of the base model. It delivers 1-280 A, welds steel up to 3/8 in. thick and runs on 208-575 V single- or three-phase power through Auto-Line.

This DX version has no CPS cooler receptacle on the back; the CPS model is part number 907539. Output is DC TIG (GTAW) only, so aluminum cannot be TIG welded, and the machine is aimed at fabrication, process pipe, tube and pipe fabrication, refineries and power plants, and stainless steel work in industries such as aerospace and shipbuilding. Air carbon arc (CAC-A) cutting and gouging is also supported.

Setup aids include Pro-Set presets, a memory card port for software updates, meter calibration for certification and a sleep timer, while Quiet Pulse lowers pulse noise and Auto-Postflow is built in. Stick (SMAW) brings dual schedules, DIG arc control (smooth for 7018, stiffer for 6010), adaptive Hot Start and Stick-Stuck, and Low OCV Stick holds idle open-circuit voltage to 9-14 VDC. Included are an 8 ft (2.4 m) primary cord, a shoulder strap and two 50 mm Dinse-style connectors.
